Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is Hiring a Counselor 2024 25 Near Evansville, IN

SUMMARY :

Serves as confidential secretary for the counseling / administrative staff by processing and maintaining accurate school / student records and completing other tasks of the counseling office as requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Other duties may be assigned.

  • Answer routine phone inquiries, take messages, route calls.
  • Distribute mail for counseling department.
  • Register new students and request and process new student records.
  • Maintain student demographics.
  • Schedule appointments for counselors.
  • Maintain quarterly honor roll.
  • Coordinate and process college applications and transcripts for students.
  • Type, prepare, and distribute records, reports, correspondence etc. related to counseling functions.
  • Process and maintain student records.
  • Cross-train with secretaries in the school office and serve as backup as needed.
  • Present a pleasant, helpful attitude toward staff, students, parents, and visitors and respond to inquiries.
  • Take advantage of in-service training to improve and upgrade skills.
  • Maintains regular attendance.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Ability to operate personal computers and skilled in Google, Microsoft Office and AS applications.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and the school community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of School Trustees policies.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or General education degree (GED). Computer experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google software required.

Previous office experience preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively with parents, staff, and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
